The Center
The Research Center for International Politics, Security, and Defense (NPSeD) was formed from the merger of the Research and Extension Group on International Security and Defense (GESED), founded in 2011, and the Group for Strategic Studies and Contemporary International Politics (GEPPIC), founded in 2015, and is institutionally affiliated with the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), in Florianópolis, SC.
Mission and Values
Through a multidisciplinary approach, NPSeD deepens knowledge, fosters the exchange of information, and carries out joint projects. It encourages ties between faculty and students, and welcomes external researchers, members of civil society, and the armed forces, in a process of training civilian professionals with solid expertise in International Politics, Security, and Defense.

1. New Technologies, the State, and International Security
Cyberdiplomacy, cyberpower, digital governance, and the role of the state in contemporary international relations shaped by the technological revolution.
2. The Power of Ideas and the Rise of Liberal Institutes in Latin America
Political agenda-setting, the influence of think tanks, and the role of ideas in shaping regional foreign policies.
3. International Security and National Defense
Armed conflicts, armed forces, national defense doctrine, global power dynamics, and new challenges for collective security.
